Know Your Phone · Last updated 26 August 2026
Know Your Phone (“the app”) is a personal Android tool for the person who owns the phone. It helps you see installed apps, screen time, unused apps, permissions other apps have, device information, and optional app lock. It is not a parental-control or employee-monitoring product.
Who we are
The app is published under the developer account that lists Know Your Phone on Google Play (package name com.appbyte.phoneupdate.phone_update). Questions: use the support email on that Play Store listing.
Data processed on your phone
After you agree on the first launch, the app may process the following on this device:
- Installed apps — app name, package name, version, last update time, icon, and whether the app can be uninstalled. Used to list apps, open Play Store update pages, and uninstall when you ask. This uses the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission only to list launcher apps you installed.
- Permissions of other apps — whether those apps currently declare sensitive access such as camera, microphone, location, contacts, SMS, or phone. The app does not read your contacts, SMS bodies, photos, or call history.
- Screen time and usage (only if you turn on Usage Access in Android settings) — foreground time per app, last-used time, unused apps for about 30 days, and estimated network bytes since reboot. Daily totals are stored in a local database on the phone for yesterday-vs-today comparison and your daily limit alert.
- Device information — model, Android version, RAM, storage, battery, and software build, shown in About phone.
- App lock (optional) — the list of apps you choose to lock, and a one-way hash of your PIN (not the PIN itself). Fingerprint/biometric is handled by Android and is not stored by us. Accessibility is used only to show the lock screen over apps you locked.
- Consent and settings — that you accepted this policy, permission-setup flags, screen-time goal, and cached ad-unit IDs, in local app storage.
- Notifications — a morning comparison with yesterday’s screen time, and an alert if you pass the daily limit you set. Alarms may run after reboot.
What we do not collect
We do not create an account. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, SMS content, precise GPS, payment details, or the contents of other apps. We do not sell personal data.
What leaves the phone
Your app list, screen time, permission list, PIN hash, and lock list are not uploaded to our servers.
The app does use the internet for:
- Ads — Google AdMob (Google LLC) to show banner, interstitial, and app-open ads. Google may process advertising ID, IP address, device and app identifiers, approximate location from IP, and ad interactions. See Google’s Privacy Policy and how AdMob uses data.
- Ad configuration — a request to our ads config URL that includes this app’s package name so we know which ad units to show. It does not send your installed-app list.
- Play Store links — when you tap update, uninstall, or rate, Android opens Google Play.
Permissions (why they exist)
- INTERNET / NETWORK STATE — ads and ad configuration.
- AD_ID — advertising identifier for AdMob, as required on Android 13+.
- QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES — list apps you installed for the features above.
- PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS — screen time, only after you grant Usage Access.
- REQUEST_DELETE_PACKAGES — uninstall an app when you confirm.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS, BOOT, alarms, WAKE_LOCK — screen-time reminders.
- BIOMETRIC / FINGERPRINT — optional unlock for app lock.
- Accessibility service — optional app lock only, for apps you select. It is not used to read what you type or to control other apps.
Your choices
- Refuse consent and exit. The app will not scan until you agree.
- Withdraw consent in the app (Privacy → Withdraw consent).
- Turn off Usage Access: Android Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access.
- Turn off the Accessibility service for Know Your Phone in system settings to stop app lock.
- Reset or opt out of ads personalization: Android Settings → Google → Ads (wording varies).
- Uninstall the app to remove local consent, PIN hash, lock list, and screen-time history stored by this app.
Children
This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child is using it, uninstall the app.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy, unless Android or Play requires a new in-app consent.
